China’s satellite navigation system has been approved by the International Maritime Organization. This is an important step the system takes to its goal: it is accepted by the world and is comparable to the US Global Positioning System (GPS).

At the meeting from November 17 to November 21, the United Nations Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organization, which is responsible for the formulation of international shipping standards, formally included China's Beidou system into the global radio navigation system. This means that following the GPS of the United States and the "Gelonas" of Russia, China's navigation system has become the third UN-recognized maritime satellite navigation system.
